How Tom Found Strength in Powerlifting and Support Through the Denver Mill Levy Program
November 16, 2025

When training for the Special Olympics, Tom turned to the Denver Mill Levy Program for support that helped him recover, rebuild, and keep reaching for gold.
When Tom traveled to Durango, Colorado this summer to compete in Colorado’s Special Olympics Summer Games, he had one clear goal: to give it his all. At 67, Tom not only competed,he shined! Over the course of three days, Tom won multiple medals, including several golds, and even set a new state record in a powerlifting event.
For Tom, who has an intellectual and developmental disability (I/DD), powerlifting is more than a sport. It’s a source of strength, confidence, and connection. And behind the scenes, support from the Denver Mill Levy Program, a program of Rocky Mountain Human Services, played a key role in maintaining his wellness throughout his training regime.
To help with recovery and keep his muscles in top shape. Tom receives massage therapy through the Denver Mill Levy Program. These regular sessions are an important part of his training routine, helping him recover after tough workouts so he can continue competing at his best.
With this support, Tom can stay active, pursue his passion for powerlifting, and celebrate his accomplishments both on and off the competition floor.
